Children & Early Interceptive Treatment

About

Some orthodontic problems are best addressed while a child is still growing. Early, well-timed treatment — known as interceptive orthodontics — can guide the developing teeth and jaws, making the most of natural growth and sometimes reducing the need for more complex treatment later.

Who is it for?

Children, typically from around age 7 onwards, whose teeth or jaws are developing in a way that may benefit from early guidance. The British Orthodontic Society recommends an orthodontic assessment by about age 7 so any developing issues can be identified at the right time.

What to expect

Olivia will carry out a thorough assessment, often including photographs and x-rays, to understand how your child's teeth and jaws are developing. Not every child needs early treatment — in many cases the best advice is simply to monitor growth. Where treatment is recommended, it may involve functional or removable appliances, or a short course of fixed braces.
